Meeting Called to Order: 6:10PM

 

·         Attendance: Sally Wetzler, Margaret Maslak, Greg Velzy, Rich & Sandy Young, Lorne Field, Brian Mutchler, Weston Spivey, David Rhodes, Barry Dixon

 

 

 

 

Conservation Easement Status:  City Council working on it again, gathering baseline documents, FOJ is working on an endowment for a legal fund to defend the easement against possible challenges.  Expect council to move on issue in summer.

 

Northshore Takeout: NS Takeout, new rocks in place, discussion on Karen's garden, need to replace hybrid witch hazel that was removed accidentally, Sally will contact Claudia and Zeke about types of plantings that would be low maintenance.

 

Trail Work: Progression on Buttermilk Heights bridges, Wetlands Bridge needs a little work. Pumphouse Dock is almost finished, bench on top and wheelchair rock ramp. Loren will price nail gun and get funding from Sally. Previously approved, not yet spent.

 

Trail Hikes:  Lorne: No Public rail Hikes until summer. SOL School Field Trips season full until mid May.

 

Joint Meeting with MORE:  Joint meeting with MORE next month, still debating on Legends or Reedy Creek.

 

Swap Meet: Swap Meet - $ 343 net from sales, fewer buyers and sellers. Proposal to move to Fish Festival/Earth Day event supported by group. 2300 participants in past fish festival.

 

 

 

River Clean-Up is scheduled on June 14. Hot spots include Sawmill Island, under Boulevard Bridge- North, Missing Link Trail, Coopers Island.  Brian asked for boater specific sites that paddlers can be recruited for.  Loren will work on a list.

 

 

 

Dedication New River Safety Signs at Tredegar May 14: Ralph planning dedication w/mayor and press.  Would like white water boaters to safely paddle by for photo ops.

 

 

 

 

Blue Ridge Mountain Sports Fundraiser:  scheduled for August 2nd, location not yet defined.  Invitation event with live music, alcohol, prizes and silent auction. Similar to event run at Charlottesville store last year.     

 

JROC Banner Proposals: Rich proposed that we have a banner to include completed project images, bigger logo. Met with support and $100 was voted to be allocated for banner.  Rich Young will circulate pdf of proposed banner for approval.
