A)    A)    A)    Recent / Current Projects & Issues

1)      1)      1)      Conservation Easement Status: No update available.

2)      2)      2)      North Shore Take Out: Regrade slope with rocks at bottom; + feedback on work completed; To do: add a bench, make kiosk & 1st slab wheelchair accessible with concrete and 6x6’s: Nathan to do estimate

3)      3)      Kiosks at Tredegar St. & parking lot by Blvd. Bridge (2 kiosks at trailheads requested and motion passed for $700 to fund)  Design: 2 face design with maps and rules posted that can serve as a model for other trailheads.

4)      4)       Trail Work: Buttermilk Heights complete. Railings on Hollywood Crevice complete for ˝ est.  Needs paint; Northbank Trail – 2 mud spots reworked; Bill’s Hill Re-route $250 left over + $100 pre-approved, if needed, for re-route to add safety and prevent erosion; Belle Isle work on 2/10/07 for railings & Northshore Trail; More use by foot sports noticed

5)      5)      Maps: Point and click web based map proposed, requires pictures and loop lengths etc.; Google Earth could provide input for JRP to upload GPS coordinates; Make a JROC park map in future

6)      6)      6)      Trail Hikes; John Johnson leading hikes.  Request for 8-10 people to lead hikes.  Debate over adverts.  Info. at FOJP website.  Consider adverts on VCU outing & City website or T-D notices.  Lorne to send event schedule to Tricia Pearsall.

1)      1)      Swap Meet: Ask Dan C. to update poster.  Need Volunteers for silent auction.  Asking Amy Waters for help again with set up and tear down.

2)      2)      Graffiti painting: Belle Isle hit again at night

3)      3)      3)      End of may float trip for city representatives and park employees.

 

  1. New Business

a)      a)           International Mtn. Nate Ayers, V.P. of Richmond MORE reports: Night Bike Patrol awaits city approval, hoping for April 1st, suggested that patrol volunteers help out with Mayor’s Walk & Roll on April 21st.

b)      b)      Night Time Abuse at Belle Isle. 40+ fires last year.  Agreed to write letter to Mayor, Police, Fire Dept., Park & Rec., & City Council noting damage from vandalism and asking for action, specifically locking gates at the 22nd St. footbridge at night.

c)      c)      Double Lines at Pony Pasture Road way seem to encourage faster driving, posing a safety risk, also ruins park atmosphere.  This may cause problems sharing the road with pedestrians and other park users as car seem unconsciously increasing speed.  Residents complaining and a coalition of neighbors has been meeting.  Council Person Cathy G. has been notified of concern.  Plan to contact South Hampton Civic Ass. For support.

d)      d)      Signs: Z-Dam kayak info. Signage has been drafted.  Rich Young to do a JROC sign at 14 St. Take out.

e)      e)      April 21st Fish Festival: 10-4; need volunteers to help hold fishing lines & bring boats to display, esp. fishing kayaks.
