January Minutes were approved

 Old Biz

Tredegar Street Boating Access Ramp.  Greg Velzy has been discussing a location near the old train trestle just downstream of the Lee Bridge with Cindy Balderson & Bill Bryant of VEPCO.  Since this is City property, VEPCO may consider assisting with funding and in other ways (volunteer workers). They have asked for a set of plans showing what we're thinking of.  Pierce Brinkley was volunteered by his lovely and talented wife to prepare an AutoCAD drawing of the Pony Pasture steps to use as typical construction. Greg V will continue work with Ralph and Pierce.

Old Biz

Piersoll Property update.  This issue keeps getting tabled at City Council meetings.  We may be getting closer to publicizing JROC's support of accepting the land donation to the Park system (field on Riverside Drive downstream of Williams Dam).  Possibility of   asking members to write letters, send e-mails, call council members, etc. We should know something within a month.

Old Biz

Mayo Island Takeout.  Steve Ellison with Richmond Whitewater Club has discussed situation with Mr. Shaia (trustee for owner).  He is concerned with liability, but indicated that rental space was a possibility.  He doesn't want the existing takeouts improved any further.  Steve will make further contacts about rental space, but anything will be on a temporary basis.  So, Greg V & Steve looked at access from the construction parking lot on the downstream side of 12th street, North side of river, inside of floodwall.  This may be City property (Ralph is looking into it). At the far downstream end of this lot is about a 5 foot wall that we'd have to build steps down, but if we can use the City lot, this could be a good long term solution.

Old Biz

Our January project of clearing the spillway on Belle Island was finished up by the Old Dominion Appalachian Trail Club.  It looks great, we owe a big thank you to all the volunteers, but some would prefer a more liquid donation.

Click To Preview TREASURER'S REPORT - Received a donation in the name of Scott Powell for $200.  Now have almost $1,800 in the account.
Click To Preview Elections will be held at the March meeting for all offices. Really need a good secretary (the current one is unreliable and drinks too much) and a membership chairman.  New officers will be installed in April.

Other Issues

Trip Jennings has completed a draft of the mini-poster for display near the Pony Pasture.  He will bring a draft to the next meeting.  Comments are welcome.  This is planned for a mid-spring installation.

Other Issues

The web site is now active on Jim Juritsch's computer.  There is a link from the COASTALS.ORG website.  Still investigating low cost hosting options.

 New Biz

We will now have a $15 annual membership fee, starting in March. Motioned by Buzz Kraft and seconded by Graham Gardner. Unanimous approval

 New Biz

The bylaws will be changed to allow all members in good standing to vote on JROC business.  A member in good standing has paid the annual fee, and attended at least one JROC function in the last three months.  Also you won't be able to vote on your first meeting.  Members not in good standing will not be allowed to vote, but won't be removed from rolls or e-mail lists. Motioned by Barry Dixon, seconded by Jim Juritsch.  Unanimous approval.  Alicia will update the bylaws and provide them to Jim for publication on the website.

 New Biz

Barry Dixon will bring a TV/VCR to the next meeting so we can see the video being developed for park promotion.
Meeting Adjourned
Next meeting 3/10/01 ? Election of Officers (bring suggestions and your voting hat). Also bring your $15 dues and amber liquid donations for the secretary (just kidding).
