Suggest that JROC  write letters to Harry Black or his superiors in support of the efforts of J.R. Pope, current head of Richmond Parks & Recreation. Mr. Pope has been particularly instrumental in promoting the James River Park (4th most visited park in the State of Virginia) and the James River as the City of Richmond’s supreme attraction in addition to making possible clean-ups,  new projects, community bike-policing….just a whole new appreciation, attitude and approach toward the importance of the Park. We need to make certain he is recognized…NOW.

.

Dominion Virginia Power has selected the Park as one of its Community Environmental Outreach Projects thanks to Sally Wetzler. On October 16 or 17, 30-50 employees will build a fence around the garbage area at Park Headquarters and paint this as well as clean and do some painting Pumphouse. They will spend ~ $2500, but the project may cost more than that. It was moved, seconded and passed that JROC allocate up to $1000 to supplement this effort to cover the cost of fencing and paint.

James River Pony Pasture Cleanup: Brian brought up efforts to undertake a Fall cleanup in this area. Susanne also mentioned that Mike Ostrander and Linda Richardson , who have adopted this section of the Park, are coordinating a cleanup effort as well. We will try to coordinator to make this a big effort. This area needs a clean-up.

Need for Input from JROC Member and All James River Park Users:  It is important to not only provide input for upcoming projects, but guidance as to how JROC should pursue its projects.  We have money to spend and want to spend it wisely on things that will improve park users experiences - bird watchers, climbers, fishermen, hikers, bikers, boaters, or other park users.
