Projects
JROC works closely with the James River Park to accomplish a wide variety of projects. Map of Park with our projects! And we've been at it since 2000 (chart).

Trail Liaison If you would like to contact the trail liaison in charge of the Buttermilk Trail System with comments or questions, write to morebuttermilk@yahoo.com. The trail liaison works with the park for the building and maintenance of the Buttermilk Trail System. This person is given the authority for these duties through the James River Park System and Ralph White. This address is a direct contact to the trail liaison only and in no way contacts the park or city.

 2009 - Pumphouse Ramp project
Spring 2008 - Built a dock at Pump House
- Built a privacy fence and recycling table at the Nature Center. 
- Graffiti cleanup in several areas
- Various river cleanups
- Cleaned up North Bank Trail near Hollywood cemetery in January.  At least 3 dump truck loads.
 - Parade of Lights 12-13-08

-Cutting brush around the building and the Washington Arch
-Cutting out bushes trees etc in the pool behind the building
-Building a handicapped access ramp for the lower floor
-Painting the dance floor
-Building a dock for the coming boat tours in the canal

March 6, 2004 Sidewalk for handicapped access to Reedy Creek Nature Center- Pictures
December 2003 Received notification of $34,000 fine levied against perpetrators who cut trees in the Park (re: March 03 action below). Assembled/delivered appreciation baskets to residents across from Reedy Creek. (Planned) Replaced missing bridge at Warner Rd. access to the Pony Pasture trails.
Nov - Dec 2003 Constructed concrete sidewalk connecting parking lot to ramp at Reedy Creek Visitors Center.
November 2003 Co-hosted IMBA trail building conference.
October 2003 Install Fencing at Oregon Hill bridge Railroad Crossing to direct foot traffic to street level access to Brown and Belle Isle.
June 03 Presented Mr. Peter Bruce, James River Park’s Chief Maintenance staff, with a mountain bike to facilitate access on trails in the park.
June 1, 2003 Power Plant Demolition on Brown's Island. Not a JROC project, but Mike McGuire has some cool pictures and video here.
April - June 2003 Designed and built a pedestrian bridge across historic canal connecting Oregon Hill with Tredegar St.

March 29, 2003 4th Annual Boating Swap Meet - Ivymont Square Shopping Center (Midlothian & Winterfield) more info
March 2003 Built and installed changing room at Huguenot Woods. Annual Gear Swap Meet to raise money for JROC. Alerted authorities to illegal tree cutting in the James River Park (formal letter sent to the city requesting action).
February 2003 Purchased and installed signs educating trail users about proper etiquette.

December 12, 2002 Distribute Gift Baskets to our neighbors at Reedy Creek...and....come out and help give out hot cider, hot dogs and marshmallows at the Parade of Lights at Libby Park 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
November 22, 2002 Continued work on Pumphouse internal roof support
October 13, 2002 Work project changed to Sunday (13th), 9am.

Upcoming "Potential" Projects

 
 
The access area around the Pump House up by Maymont near the old canal lock has some old damaged concrete that either needs removal or repair.
